Murder Inferno is one of the all-time great Mafia films, with a bomb attack on a cinema setting off a brutal struggle for supremacy between Sicilian and Calabrian clans. Stone-faced Henry Silva is the toughest and most charismatic screen hit-man ever, and is given perfect support from Richard Conte as a Mafia Boss, Pier Paolo Capponi – Cat O’Nine Tails (1971) and Seven Blood-Stained Orchids (1972), and Spaghetti Western star Gianni Garko. Directed by Fernando Di Leo, Murder Inferno forms the last and greatest film of his mafia trilogy, Milano Calibro 9 and La Mala Ordina (both 1972).

A Candle for the Devil has sisters Verónica and Marta run an inn in a small Spanish village - an argument about nude sunbathing with a guest, which offends their strict religious principles, ends in the guest's accidental death. Now the floodgates open when it comes to judging those who are sinful. Eugenio Martín is best remembered for Horror Express (1972), pairing Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing with Telly Savalas, but this smaller scale film, with Aurora Bautista and Esperenza Roy as the sisters and Sally Geeson as their final victim is easily as good.
