Essentially a retread of 1947's Kiss of Death, this horror Western has psycho Robert Evans terrorising his former cellmate and family. It was practically Evans' last performance as an actor, before moving into producing, but it's one hell of a performance to go out on, and the film contains some genuinely shocking moments of cold-blooded murder.

If the score is familiar, it's because 20th Century Fox reused Bernard Herrmann's music from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), since film musicians were on strike at the time they wanted the score. Herrmann was extremely unhappy.
