A Stranger is Watching (1982) Australian Daybill
Sean S. Cunningham's first film after the success of his Friday the 13th (1980) is an early entry into the 'psychotic killer targeting the same victims' genre. Based on a Mary Higgins Clark novel, it tells of a man's daughter, who had watched her mother die at the hands of a killer three years before. He is now about to be executed, but the real killer kidnaps the daughter and the man's current girlfriend and imprisons them beneath Grand Central Station. While it's a standard race against time scenario, Cunningham racks up the murder sequences in Friday style, making for a rather uneasy combination.
An early lead role for Captain Janeway, Kate Mulgrew, and a bravura role from Rip Torn as the maniac.
