Dead & Buried (1981) UK Quad Poster

Gary Sherman has an extraordinary fertile run, directing Death Line (1972), Dead & Buried, Vice Squad (1982), Wanted: Dead or Alive (1986), Poltergeist III (1988) and his variation on I Saw What You Did (1965) with Lisa (1989). Dead & Buried remains a vicious piece, part slasher, part zombie film. But one of the most uncomfortable nurse-inflicted deaths in cinema, some highly effective shocks - one stolen wholesale by Se7en (1995) – and great special effects makeup by Stan Winston, all conspired to have the film banned as a video nasty in the UK in the early 1980s. It was later acquitted of obscenity charges and removed from the DPP’s list.

Dan O’Bannon’s name was attached to the project in order to get it made, but it was too late to have his name removed when he realised that co-writer Ronald Shusett had used none of his material.
