Galaxy of Terror (1981) US 1 Sheet Poster #New
New Zealander Bruce D Clark's final film was for maverick producer Roger Corman and New World Pictures. It's a pity since despite it's notoriety, it's very well directed given its deliberately derivative storyline. This film also traces a direct link to the similarly structured Aliens (1986) as the Production Designer and 2nd Unit Director was one James Cameron. (His set decorator was Bill Paxton too.)
A rescue team is sent to Morganthus by a mysterious alien Planet Master, where they proceed to be picked off one by one, by tentacled maggot monsters - the galactic rape of one character was shot by Corman himself with a body double (legend has it it was Iya Labunka, soon to be Mrs Wes Craven), as both Clark and original actress Taaffe O'Connell refused to shoot the scene. It was awarded an X certificate until trims brought it back into R territory, but Clark later admitted it was this scene's reputation that made Galaxy of Terror a hit.
