Fragment of Fear Style B / Loving (both 1970) UK Quad DB Poster
Fragment of Fear, starring the then Mr and Mrs Hemmings (see Voices for more on that story) is what happens when you mix Italian giallo with 60's psychedelia and Hollywood New Wave. Directed by Richard C. Sarafian (who went on to the cult classic Vanishing Point the following year), it's one of the only films where the protagonist is not only an author, but also a former drug addict. After his aunt's murder (officially by one of the criminals she helped back into society) David Hemmings begins to investigate himself, dissatisfied with the explanation. He is then subjected to threats by those around him, and he begins to question his own sanity.
Written by former film critic and WWII SOE assassin Paul Dehn, he was a shoo-in for Goldfinger (1964) and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965), but was also responsible for the entire Planet of the Apes cycle apart from the first film, starting with Beneath in 1970.
Art: Although this artwork bears a resemblance to the US campaign, these wild staring eyes are very different from the cool look Hemmings gives on the 1 sheet.
Condition: FAIR / GOOD - Surface scuffs top left and right, tape on bottom right corner and several dinks and folds bottom edge.
Cast: David Hemmings, Gayle Hunnicutt, Flora Robson, Wilfred Hyde-White, Adolfo Celi, Roland Culver, Daniel Massey, Mona Washbourne, Arthur Lowe, Yootha Joyce.
