The prom at Bates High is about to hot up in Brian De Palma’s masterpiece, which Stephen King is happy to acknowledge is better than his book. Betty Buckley as the gym teacher was only two years older than Sissy Spacek, and Spacek already knew De Palma – she’d been a set dresser on his Phantom of the Paradise (1974). Perfect cast, music, editing, directing – lightning in a bottle.
