Greenhorn Gary Grimes is our way into the rough, dirty, treacherous world of the cattle drive - with an ensemble cast that rivals The Wild Bunch (1969) in Dick Richard's revisionist masterpiece. Shot with an eye for dust and lens flares by Ralph Woolsey, who lensed The Strawberry Statement and Little Fauss and Big Halsey (both 1970), revisited the West with Dirty Little Billy (1972) and shot Richard's road movie Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins (1975). This was Richard's directing debut, and he ensured a great start by casting Geoffrey Lewis, Bo Hopkins - The Wild Bunch (1969), The Getaway (1972), Luke Askew - Cool Hand Luke (1967), Easy Rider (1969), Charlie Martin Smith, Matt Clark, Billy Green Bush and John McLiam - First Blood (1982).
