It was during the making of this film that Hammer were given the Queen's Award for Industry - Dracula Has Risen from the Grave was also their most profitable film, (even though On the Buses (1971) took the most at the box office.) Terence Fisher had to bow out of directing this after a car accident, and Freddie Francis stepped in.
