Scarecrow (1982) UK Quad Poster #New

Sam Pillsbury's feature debut made in New Zealand, based on Ronald Morrieson's coming of age horror novel. A couple of youngsters in a sleepy 50's town are out stealing the local bully's hens when they cross paths with a murderer and a mysterious stranger arrives. The depiction of seething corruption under a puritanical facade is well drawn, and John Carradine as the stranger elevates the story, with a disquieting score from Morton Wilson and Andrew Hagen, two members of a band called Schtung, with jazz pianist Phil Broadhurst.
