The second film of the blaxploitation Shaft series (followed by Shaft in Africa - 1973) with original director Gordon Parks taking on the composing role as well, and screenwriter Ernest Tidyman - the Oscar winning script for The French Connection (1971) was his - rewriting at the insistence of MGM. The plot - double crosses and changing alliances as various gangs hunt for $250,000 is standard fare, but Richard Roundtree scores as the private eye one step ahead of the bad guys.

Evel Knievel is a biopic with George Hamilton starring as the daredevil motorcyclist. Co-written by adventure film specialist Alan Caillou and John Milius and directed by TV man Marvin J Chomsky, it shows Knievel ruminating on key events in his life, ending with a tantalising run up to the edge of the Grand Canyon - a jump that he wisely decided not to try in reality.
