Gilliam at his visual best, satirising the grim uber-bureaucracy of the near future, and at his worst in matters of emotion and the heart - something he was guilty of throughout his career. Still, the images of a dystopian system and the hapless citizens beset equally by terrorists and their own controllers are every bit as rich as Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982), and it's a tremendous cast.
