10 Rillington Place (1971) UK Quad Poster (Style B)
Even more grim than the dour full colour artwork, this Style B emphasises the newspaper elements, both with The People quote and the 'Timothy Evans Hanged' headline on the front cover of the delivered paper. Attenborough's natural resemblance to the murderer Christie is uncanny, and the sordid killings are so disturbing because of their commonplace nature, mirroring life in depressed post war London. Top support from Judy Geeson, as his unfortunate victim, and John Hurt (who received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor) as her illiterate husband.
Directed by Richard Fleisher with the same unblinking gaze at the mundane essence of murder he showed in Compulsion (1959) and The Boston Strangler (1968). Albert Pierrepoint, the man who actually hanged both Evans and Christie, served uncredited as a technical adviser.
