Stanely Kubrick maintained total control over the exploitation of his films, and the look of 2001's advertising material was even more important than usual, in that he'd created an entirely new look to the universe as we knew it. As a conceptual artist, working for NASA to document the Space Race, Robert McCall was the perfect man to depict the scale and grandure of Douglas Trumbull's extraordinary effects.
