When the budget won’t stretch to Billy Wilder, then why not use his brother William Lee Wilder? His genre credentials were good, Phantom from Space (1953), The Snow Creature (1954) and The Man Without a Body (1957). To keep it in the family, the script was written by his son, Myles. For this British production, George Sanders stars as Henri Landru, a man infatuated with an exotic dancer, who embarks on a course of serial murder to find the funds to keep his two-timing mistress happy. Inevitably, it ends with Madame Guillotine.

It’s an interesting list of then-current British based actresses and actors, with Maxine Audley, the blind mother in Peeping Tom (1960), Greta Gynt, The Dark Eyes of London (1939) and Jean Kent, The Haunted Strangler (1958).
