Ruggero Deodato's dry run for Cannibal Holocaust (1980) was designed as a sequel to Umberto Lenzi's Sacrifice! (1972), but Lenzi asked for too much money and the idea was scrapped, although the presence of Me Me Lai and Ivan Rassimov in both films is a holdover from the plan. (Lenzi reused Me Me Lai's entire Cannibal death scene in Eaten Alive! (1980)). However, even for an early entry, this is a brutal, shocking film - something not even the BBFC cuts could completely disguise, so woe betide any film on a double bill with it...

…which happened to be Psychic Killer. In a mental institution after being wrongfully accused of murder, Arnold Masters plans bloody vengeance on those he blames for the death of his mother. A supernatural medallion allows a form of astral projection, to commit the murders without leaving a trace. Luckily, an ingenious script and an perfect B-movie cast (old-troupers Neville Brand and Julie Adams especially) push it to the borders of black comedy.
