Carey Treatment (1972) Australian Daybill #New
Based on a pseudonymous Michael Crichton novel (as Jeffery Hudson), James Coburn stars as a pathologist investigating the death of the daughter of his hospital's Chief doctor, and trying to prevent his surgeon friend from being (excuse me) stitched up. After the most appalling battles with studio and producers, director Blake Edwards walked out immediately he'd finished the last shot, leaving post production to the studio. Which might explain why, at 101 minutes, this ranks as one of his shortest films.
He had already brought editor Ralph E. Winters on board, with whom he'd worked on The Pink Panther (1963), A Shot in the Dark (1964) and The Great Race (1965). Winter went on to a classic three thriller run, with The Outfit (1973), The Spikes Gang and Mr. Majestyk (both 1974), then big critter movies such as King Kong (1976) and Orca (1977).
