Released 18 months before Apollo 11's mission to the moon, Robert Altman's Countdown was his return to features after working in TV for a decade - his last film prior to that was The Delinquents (1957). He utilised his overlapping dialogue technique, for which he was promptly barred from the studio lot and the film recut without him. He went on to work with Robert Duvall again however, on M.A.S.H. in 1970.

Produced by William Conrad’s production company, this polymath of radio, stage and screen, both behind and in front of the camera, was a key force in independent filmmaking. Remembered best as Cannon, like Stanley Baker, there was much more to him than simply a screen performer.
