Dawn of the Dead (1978 / 1983R) French Petite Poster

Although George Romero's Dawn of the Dead was released in the US in 1978, it was only given a French release in 1983. The poster gives a starring role to Leonard Lies, the 'machete zombie' killed on screen by makeup artist Tom Savini himself. Lies was also a grip for the camera department on this and Knightriders (1981) for Romero. 

In true low budget fashion, extras in the film were given just $1, a donut, and a Dawn of the Dead T-shirt. As Savini himself said: "When you're born in Pittsburgh, one of the things you want to be when you grow up is a zombie in a Romero film."
