Montenegro (1981) German A1 Poster #New

After a long apprenticeship making shorts, Serbian director and screenwriter Dušan Makavejev - one of the Black Wave directors (known for their black humour and uncompromisingly harsh depiction of Yugoslav society and politics) became internationally famous after Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator (1967), WR: Mysteries of the Organism (1971) which was banned in Yugoslavia, and the infamous Sweet Movie (1974).

Montenegro was next, with Susan Anspach - Five Easy Pieces (1971), Blume in Love (1973), in a career best as a depressed housewife seemingly with a perfect marriage and family hooking up with a band of Yugoslavs, whose anarchic lifestyle she joins. Finally she murderously severs her ties with this group, and returns home and prepares a fabulous meal. A title tells us it's poisoned. Montenegro was nominated for the Golden Palm Award at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival.
