Alberto Negrin never seemed to direct the film that would make his name. Active from the late 60s until recently, he mainly gravitated to TV, with Tower of the Firstborn (1999) an entertaining Tomb Raider game rip-off, managing to hit the cinemas before the official Angelina Jolie version. Red Rings of Fear is a meld of poliziotteschi and giallo, with dollops of nudity and gore in an attempt to satisfy every market. A detective investigating the murder of a schoolgirl begins to look more closely at her three closest friends, and to question exactly what is being taught at the exclusive girl's school.

Massimo Dallamano, former cinematographer on A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), was slated to direct. He'd already made A Black Veil for Lisa (1968), What Have You Done to Solange? (1972) and What Have they Done to Your Daughters? (1974), which would have made him a perfect fit, but sadly died in a car crash before production began.
