Sinful Davey (1969) UK Quad Poster
While awaiting hanging in prison, Davey finishes his memoirs, and tells of his attempt to outdo his highwayman father in the number of crimes he committed. As he gets into deeper scrapes, his partner in crime MacNab (Ronald Fraser) and ever-faithful girl Annie (Pamela Franklin, still sporting her Prime of Miss Jean Brodie Scottish accent) helps him escape. It's hardly one of John Huston's best, and not helped by extensive studio interference, even resulting with John Barry's score being replaced by one by Ken Thorne, who had composed comedy music for Richard Lester's It's Trad Dad! (1962), Help! (1965) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966).
Starring John Hurt, he'd been spotted after his standout performance in A Man for all Seasons (1966), but the advertising world wasn't ready for his looks - hence the chiselled features on the ad campaign - a great deal more He-Man than human.
